PSTA Partners with Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office to Urge Citizens Not to Drive on New Year’s Eve

All PSTA service will be free after 8:00 p.m. with select routes extending hours.

For immediate release: December 28, 2018

St. Petersburg, FL – The Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority (PSTA) has partnered with the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office to bring free, late night transportation options on New Year’s Eve.

PSTA will offer free service on all routes after 8:00 p.m. Select major routes (4, 52, 60, Central Ave Trolley, Suncoast Beach Trolley and Looper) will have extended service hours until 1:00 a.m. The Jolley Trolley serving along Clearwater Beach will extend regular service until 2:00 a.m.

Sheriff Bob Gualtieri warns driving after celebrating on New Year’s Eve is not worth the risk.

“If you drive under the influence, it’s going to cost you more than you’re prepared to pay,” says Sheriff Gualtieri. “Use free bus transportation, a ride hailing app, or a designated driver. Whichever you choose, just make the right decision and get home safe. There’s no excuse.”

PSTA regularly provides service partnership for large-scale events across Pinellas County and hopes more will learn about the New Year’s Eve free, extended service to enhance safety in the county.

“We are proud to offer this safe, reliable and affordable holiday service to our citizens and visitors,” said PSTA CEO Brad Miller. “Have a great time on New Year’s wherever you are in Pinellas County and save money by avoiding ride hailing surcharges as well!”

Riders interested in taking PSTA on New Year’s Eve can plan a trip any time using PSTA’s officially endorsed trip-planning app called Transit. For more information visit PSTA.net.
