Road Rules Made Simple
Bus-and-Turn Lanes 101
Those red asphalt lanes marked “BUS and ← ONLY”? They’re helping everyone move more efficiently.
You can use them when:
- Making a turn (up to one block before/after)
- Accessing driveways, businesses, or street parking
- Just remember to signal, check for buses, and pull in behind any SunRunner you see
Quick reminder: No parking, even temporarily. Delivery or pickup stops risk immediate tickets or towing.
Why they matter: These lanes keep the SunRunner reliable, help emergency vehicles reach people faster, and stay available during weather evacuations.
Bikes & Getting Around
Bringing your bike? Perfect! SunRunner buses have level boarding with three interior bike racks plus standing room for cyclists. Many stations also have bike racks if you prefer to park and ride.
Need a bike? Check out bikeshare locations near SunRunner stations at gohopr.com/coast. Just remember—rental bikes and scooters stay at the dock.
Updated bike infrastructure: We’ve moved bike lanes to Central Ave between 66th and 34th Streets (wider and better), added buffered bike lanes on 1st Ave N and S, and cyclists can use bus-and-turn lanes on Pasadena Ave between Central Ave and Huffman Way.
Riding the SunRunner
Planning your trip: Use our trip planner or download the Transit app (Android or iPhone).
Where we go: Downtown St. Petersburg, USF St. Pete, Tropicana Field, TradeWinds Island Resort, Grand Central and Edge Business Districts, Bayfront, Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital, South Pasadena, St. Pete Beach, plus countless local shops, restaurants, and businesses along the way.
Service hours: Seven days a week, 6 am to midnight. Buses every 15 minutes until 8 pm, then every 30 minutes until midnight. SunRunner After Dark, generously funded by the City of St. Peterburg, provides 15-minutes frequency until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays!
Cost: Same as regular PSTA service ($2.25 per ride). Check out reduced fare options if you qualify.
Accessibility: All stations feature specially-designed ramps and platforms for easy access. All-door boarding means enter wherever is convenient—wheelchair users use the front door (look for the ADA decal), cyclists use the rear door (bike decal). Low-floor buses with fold-out ramps and simple wheelchair restraint systems keep things smooth for everyone.
Pets welcome: Small, well-behaved pets in carriers are always invited aboard.
Paying your fare
We’ve gone cashless to keep things moving quickly—no fumbling for exact change while everyone waits.
Contactless payment: Tap your newer debit/credit card, smartphone, or wearable device (Apple Watch, Fitbit, Samsung Watch). We accept Visa, Mastercard, and Discover. We currently do not accept American Express.
