PSTA invites you to experience Real Time Bus Information. The system works with GPS technology and allows PSTA to pinpoint each vehicles exact location at all times. This means we can provide reliable, real-time departure information to passengers.
OMG, No Tailpipe!
Clean energy and sustainability are a huge conversation happening right now in many industries, but likely no conversation is bigger than the one in transportation. Each weekday, American citizens board public transportation to take care of their personal and work needs, so it is vital our industry take note of how we can reduce carbon emissions and preserve our environment.
In 2020, U.S. greenhouse gas emissions totaled 5,222 MILLION metric tons of carbon dioxide. This number decreased as we moved through the year due to a 13% decrease in transportation emissions as demand went down due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
So, how can we step up and be a part of making a difference and keep these numbers on the decline?
PSTA has signed a 10-year agreement with Duke Energy Sustainable Solutions, a nonregulated commercial brand of Duke Energy, Duke Energy Sustainable Solutions will install, maintain, and operate our electric bus charging infrastructure. This is the latest step in our ongoing mission to transform our fleet to clean and green by 2050, and a huge move forward as we strive towards our commitment to clean energy. That means that we’ll be able to serve our community with efficient, reliable public transportation on electric buses—making this an even bigger deal for you and the environment.
Each electric bus is powered by a rechargeable, environmentally friendly battery and averages 180 miles (or about 14 hours) of operating time on a single charge, and this unique agreement with Duke will help us establish the infrastructure to charge those buses efficiently and safely. By electrifying our fleet, we not only help save the planet, but also save money: each electric bus will reduce our spend on diesel fuel by $20,000/year!
