St. Petersburg Hosts Largest Open-Air Event on Halloween
Thousands of people participate in the first-ever ‘Halloween on Central’
St. Petersburg, FLA – Today, thousands of people participated in the first-ever and largest open-air event in St. Petersburg. Halloween on Central, hosted by Car–Free St. Pete, in partnership with the Grand Central District, EDGE District, Open Streets St. Pete, and the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority (PSTA), boasted dozens of activities for all to enjoy. Attendees strolled and rolled along nearly two miles of the city, from Dr. MLK Jr. (9th) Street to 31st Street, and experienced the heart of the Sunshine City from a unique perspective that allowed them to rediscover their favorite local businesses and interact with the community in a fun, healthy way – without worrying about car traffic.
Some activities included event-wide trick or treating at local businesses, Halloween games, costume contests, live music, dancing lessons and so much more.
“We are so excited to have brought the St. Pete community together today to enjoy Central Avenue car-free,” said Jason Mathis CEO of the Downtown Partnership. “All day, folks have been biking, strolling, and skating on the street, really getting to enjoy the vibrancy of a pedestrian-centered urban center.”
PSTA increased service on the Central Avenue Trolley and redirected the route to 1st Ave N and S, servicing the bus stops on those roads every 15 minutes. Anyone that was dressed in Halloween costumes rode for free during the event.
