St. Petersburg, FL – The Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority (PSTA) will honor a recently retired bus driver at its board meeting tomorrow, Wednesday January 26th. Oakie O’Hara is being recognized for his nearly 39 years of service to the agency and the community.
O’Hara had just celebrated his 20th birthday when he started his career in July of 1983. He retired on December 2nd, 2021.
“Oakie has dedicated so much of his life and time to PSTA, and we thank him for that,” said CEO Brad Miller. “He has safely transported thousands of people over the years. We want Oakie and the community to know we appreciate his service, professionalism, and wish him the best as he drives off into retirement. You have earned it, Oakie.”
O’Hara was also President of the Drivers’ Union for 7 years. But perhaps the greatest gift during his tenure at PSTA, his wife. O’Hara met his wife Liz on a PSTA bus. She eventually joined the agency as well.
