What kid doesn’t love a big bus? We had a blast spending time with 515 students at Lynch Elementary, Shore Acres Elementary, Cross Bayou Elementary, Nina Harris School, and Gibbs High School for this year’s Great American Teach-In. In addition to in-person visits, we also virtually shared the fun with students from many other schools.
For those unaware, the Great American Teach-In happens once a year, where local businesses introduce students to a variety of job opportunities. The goal is to open a child’s mind to different career options, especially ones they’ve never heard of!
While students are likely familiar with their school bus, many are unfamiliar with Pinellas County’s public transit system or the programs we offer. Our volunteers were eager to share how fun and easy riding the bus can be while emphasizing how essential and invaluable public transit truly is for our area. Exposing youngsters to the many exciting career options the industry offers helps ensure a bright future for PSTA and inspires these future transit experts-in-the-making.
A huge thank-you to the following PSTA employees that volunteered their time at schools:
AJ Ortiz – Transportation Department
Trish Collins – Human Resources Department
Ross Silvers – Mobility Department
Nicole Dufva – Planning Department
Bob Lasher – Planning Department
Terry White – Bus Operator
Maruf Mizan – Bus Operator
