March 30th, 2022
St. Petersburg, FLA – Today, the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority (PSTA) Board of Directors unanimously approved a wage increase for its bus operators to a new max pay of $27.60 per hour, the highest amongst all comparative bus operator positions in Florida.
PSTA staff presented the request for new pay rates which increase all pay levels for bargaining employees. Starting wages for bus operators also increased from $16 to $18 per hour. Additionally, the steps for wage progression will be further compressed to 48 months (from 54), meaning bus operators and customer service representatives may reach their respective max rates much sooner (in 4 years).
In addition, fleet maintenance technicians entry-level pay rises from $18.50 to $20.50 per hour and customer service representatives’ max pay rises to $22.50.
“PSTA’s success revolves heavily on our frontline workers, and we could not deliver high-quality service throughout Pinellas County without the dedicated employees that make up a majority of the workforce,” said Brad Miller, Chief Executive Officer of PSTA. “PSTA is proud to offer a competitive market wage that not only attracts new talent, but also retains our valued employees.”
“I applaud PSTA for making a competitive market adjustment to its front-line workers,” said Pat Gerard, Chair of PSTA Board of Directors. “This shows how dedicated PSTA is to showing its gratitude for its employees.”
PSTA’s frontline employees make up nearly 83% of its workforce.
