You may have noticed new, rust-red lanes along First Avenues North and South. They are the SunRunner’s “bus-and-turn” lanes – which are now open!
These special lanes are reserved for the SunRunner buses and emergency vehicles to help them move more efficiently through traffic, but you can drive in the lanes for up to one block before or after you make a turn. To make a turn using the bus-and-turn lane, be sure to use your turn signal and check for buses in the lane. If a bus is present, always pull in behind it. You may also drive in the lanes for up to one block when accessing driveways, businesses, and adjacent street parking. Keep in mind, bus-and-turn lanes are effective 24/7 so violators risk being ticketed or towed.
